A Day of Admittance for Prescott

John Prescott owns up to the fact that some in the Labour Party are disappointed in him, but the embattled deputy prime minister vowed to stay on the job nevertheless.

"I do believe there are people in the Labour Party who have been disappointed with me, of course, I'd be stupid not to recognise that," he told BBC1's Sunday AM.

"But what they say (is) 'get on with the job, get on with doing what Labour's done and get that case across.' Now I still believe that I've got an important contribution to make in that, otherwise I wouldn't stay around. And I have, despite all the nonsense in the press. I do want to continue that programme," he added.

He also admitted that he wore the controversial cowboy outfit given to him by casino bidder Philip Anschutz during his much criticized stay at the ranch of the billionaire.

Asked on the program whether he had seen the outfit, he said: "Of course I've seen them, I wore them - I wore them on the day because I went round the ranch, looking at how a ranch works in that sense."

The gift includes a Stetson hat, leather boots, and a silver buckle with his initials on it. Prescott said he did not intend to keep the gift.
